I heard the roof structure at Twins Ponds burned down today. I worked in Awendaw today and the fire chief mentioned it. Sounded as if the entire wooden structure was gone.

Said there was guy there who wanted to shoot and he wouldn't leave so they had to call the law to have him removed, not sure how that turned out.

This can't be good given budget cuts at the USDA/FS therefore I'd bet that Boggy Head is going to be very busy for quite some time.

Sounds like a good fund raising event might be needed. We need a Habitat for Hoplophiles (gun nuts) event to rebuild the shooting shed.

Re: Twin Ponds range damaged by wildfire

That breaks my heart. I liked Twin Ponds a lot.
The trees around it was almost like a park.

Perhaps we can do something to help rebuild it. The funding of the project will be the biggest problem.
We could raise a roof in a day with enough people, Habitat style.

I'll see if I can find out what they plan to do about it.
The concrete pad may be OK, just needing the structure rebuild.
Anybody know what caused teh fire?

The phone number for the local Forest Service office is 843-887-3257.
If you want to call and offer your help they'll take your name and number and put you on the volunteer list.
I've volunteered for years and helped install the tables at TP, it hurts to think of all that work burned to the ground.

I have to wonder if it was the work of one of those anti-gun nuts?
or was it just a natural event like a lightning strike or something.
There is no electricity there and nothing near it to catch it on fire.
If it was deliberately set, I'm double mad.

Is there anyone suggesting how it happened?

I have only heard what has been said here...It Sucks...

I think we as a group, need to step up and see if we can help. Work, try to do a fund raising project...something. This is the kind of stuff that looks
gun plus...

They did have a fire that burned umpteen hundred acres and closed Hwy 17 for periods this past week on that side of the National Forest. It has been dry and fires have been a bear.

Sign me up as well, Pops. I'll be there if the creek don't rise.

Update - I called the NFS office and according to them the shed and tables did not burn it's only the surrounding wooded area. The range remains closed until the clean up is finished.

I have not been out there to see the extent of the damage but this is good news if the structure is unharmed. Sorry for the misinformation.

Glad to hear that the range structures didn't get damaged. Not surprised they have to do damage control to the surroundings first before reopening. Any nearby trees that were burned could be a nasty headache(literally) to any range visitors if they fall!

My sister and her husband were at Twins Ponds shooting today. The range is open and everything is in working order.
She said the burnt wooded area appeared to be more like a controlled burn than a wildfire but who knows?!?

I haven't found other mags, yet. Clicker Dave said he had some of another brand that run good. I need to get with him and borrow a couple..

I went to teh range Saturday. It would feed 5 rounds good thru teh C-Product mags, but any more ammo than that it would FTF...

I really love to shoot it...The rifle is accurate as hell...Just got to get it to feed...

It is still not broken in yet...just a work in progress....

Yes, I was out there on April 3rd. DNR reopened the range on Saturday April 2. As already described fire burned pretty much all ground debris and scorched some timber, but the facilities are fine.
