What I am proposing is we assign a virtual budget and build a virtual gun.
The idea is to agree on components that should go on an AR15 build.
For example I might propose we use a Spikes lower but you think a S&W lower is better so you state why and convince the group.
Hopefully at the end there would be a shopping list someone could order and have the right stuff...

I am thinking $1000 should be enough what do y'all think?

Is this like fantasy football?
It would be fantasy firearms . . .

I want to include a custom Duracoat finnish from HHB Guns in Summerville.

I'm designing something for my Remmington 'leven hundred. I'll absorb the setup cost so all it costs is the application.

Absolutely include a coating from them!
I would want the parts to all match.
Also something custom for just the Forum Rifle would be kool.

Sounds like a plan to me...

I have never had a Spikes lower, but, I did buy the buffer system for my AR pistol from them. It is nice workmanship....and you can get the Spider emblem painted...It looks cool...
I have a Rock River lower, and a CMMG...They both work, but, they don't have the cool Spider....

I say a CMMG Lower....I have used and sold and never had a problem...$260 all day long. Complete with 6-pos stock.

Save money on the lower and we can spend more on a custom design coating :D

Hell, We can even paint the spider on if you want. lol

Mike & I decided we will do a one time only $200 Paint job on the rifle...Includes camo pattern with three colors, optics, Rings and mounts, Bipod if needed and two mags. That is Normally a $390 job.

A complete Spikes lower can be had for $249
I don't give a care about the spider, I would rather have the yet to be completed forum logo.

Hey Pops where are we with that logo anyway?

Personally I am not hung up on any particular brand of any individual piece.
I brought up Spikes because I have not seen anyone complain about them.

I guess this means at this point there are two recommendations for lower.
As soon as we get all the recommendations we can do a post with a poll so the forum members can vote.

Does that seem like the way to do this to you?

No no it does not have to be spikes, I was just suggesting it.
I don't personally know anyone who owns one.
I was thinking that since they do custom engraving we could get the forum logo or something else engraved.

Too me, it matters what you will use the rifle for. For the long shot, you need the freefloat....but, it is nice to change the upper in 30 seconds with just pulling 2 pins...

Anyone have any experience with the Superior Arms lower? I built an AR using it and so far it's trouble free. The fit to my Model 1 and Bushmaster uppers is superb. It also has a secondary set screw located in the pistol grip for trigger preset. This allows a tunable trigger from even a standard GI trigger. Almost forgot, though the website shows then going for $140 they can be had at local gunshows for as low as $80.

I have a customer who builds his own AR's. He must have 25. The only one he uses is superior. They must be good because I have never heard him complain. As for the upper. I have good results with YHM uppers.

If the lowers are milspec they should be the same. Maybe the finish might be a little better on some than others. I have two Spikes and Two DPMS, all four the same. All you need to figure out is what manfacturer do you want stamped on the side. You pay more for some than others. Personally for the money you can't beat the $89 stripped lowers from Spikes.

I might suggest an Aero Precision lower with a DPMS lower kit for 119.00 plus 15.00 shipping from SurplusAmmo.com. If we are gonna build it ,save money by building it from the ground up. More money for cool stuff.
