I have wanted an M1 Garand for ever....I just never had a chance to swing one....Till Sunday...

I am now the PROUD owner of a Garand...I can't wait to take her out and shoot her...

I wish the old camera could take better pics...I would love to show her off...

She will be at Shootzenfest, for sure...

I talked to a Garand lover today. He works at ATP...Him and 2 other Garand lovers have compiled a data base of Garand's..He can read off all the numbers, imput them in the computer and find out the whole history of the gun...I am taking her to ATP tomorrow afternoon for him to run her pedigree...I am stoked...

A new love...just all my pocket needed...

Awesome! I'm so happy that you've found your garand. Isn't it a fantastic feeling? Who made the receiver on yours? Does it have any markings on the stock? That'll let you know what other countries it may have served with. Keep us updated on what you find out from the ATP guys.

Guns.com is running a serial article on ammo for an m1 garand, here's the first article from two weeks ago http://www.guns.com/the-secret-to-a...et-or-what-to-feed-your-m1-garand-part-i.html and it has some links to an army instruction film for the garand that I thought was really neat. Here's part 2 of the article from last week http://www.guns.com/its-a-garand-life-what-to-feed-your-m1-garand-part-ii.html. I don't know when the next article in the series will be out but I expect it pretty soon.

Oh you poor, poor and unsuspecting, fool. You triggered her inner fangirl. This is not a bad thing, mostly (although i do have to admit i lost one gun to her over it). May the gods have mercy on your soul :D

Congratulations!! Welcome to the M1 club! They are like lay's potato chips...you can't have only one! ;) I have 6 M1 Garand's and 2 M1A's and love them all. I built several and even built a 308 M1 Garand. One of these days I'm going to build a 243 M1 Garand. I'll probably have to buy a barrel blank and make my own since I can't find a short chamber barrel anywhere. Let us know how it shoots.

I met with our own Enjay tody at ATP...We went M1 Garand shooting...I am in love...

It is a sweet shooter...Next time I will have to have more room..25yards is not enough for the Garand...

Enjay is really cool, We had a good time. She shot 1 Clip thru the Garand, thenhad to quit because of a bad sholder...so, I pulled out both of my Kimbers and let her shoot them..

After she shot the .45's...I had a big suprise for her...

I pulled out the AR pistol from the tennis racket bag and let her play with it...After a full 30 round mag...she had that grin...you know...the on that you couldn't slap of of her...and she said..."this thing is not worth anything....but, it sure is fun"...

She took a few pics. Hope they turned out good enough for her to post here...

We had a good time...and, Did I mention...I love my Garand...

Steve was very kind and generous with his weapons and his ammo. I did admire the ar pistol very much and I really liked his garand (and am now keen to get mine out to shoot since he kindly helped me with my stance and firing it hurt MUCH less) but I'm going to be pasting pictures of kimbers to my refrigerator and trying to convince the kids that beans are the new chocolate and that they should have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I'm wounded that Fordnut didn't mention the gun warming gift I gave him. 5 clips (four empty and one not) all wrapped up in a bag I decorated with a pretty (chevy) bow tie. Don't lose that cardboard thingy, it's vintage.
I will happily post the pictures as soon as we get home. Kevin decided we needed Chinese tonight so I'm posting from my phone.

I really did appreciate the 5 clips and the 8 rounds of ammo....I just didn't want to say anything about the emblem on the bag....It still was very kind of you...

Is there any way to buy more of that ammo???? I like the soft tip ammo...

Again, thanks for the enjoyable time at the range...We have to get you to Boggy Head soon...

I edited out the serial number so someone doesn't stumble across the pic and create problems.
And, just because he didn't quite believe me:
edited to remove picture
here you can see Ken's fantastic shot.

I have never claimed to be sane. In this case though it was pure pragmatism. I had a hog to butcher and I went with what I had.

As for that ammo, the box says it's Remington Express 165 gr Core-Lokt PSP and I believe we picked it up at Walmart a few years ago. If you can line the shot up right it should take out a few zombies no prob. As for the clips, I just looked and all of my clips are loaded with the left one up, except for one. I just ran that one through the garand and while it cycled once I got it in I was having the same issues getting the clip in that we had yesterday with yours. I took a look at it and the little guide piece inside the receiver on my rifle was sticking a bit, so I put a drop of oil on it and wiggled it about and it took the clip regardless of how I loaded the rounds in it. Might want to look at that on your rifle too.

Congrats on the M1! I LOVE mine, so does my wife and the 4 boys. Mine is a 3.2million Springfield that was made in )ct 1944 with an Aug 1944 SA barrel. In May 1965 it was refurbished at the Red River Army Depot.

Now you need to join the CMP! If your not sure how just ask!

Mine is a Springfield...It was built in Sept. 1941...it is all original, so I am told. The barrel was also manufactured in Sept. 1941...

I love shooting it...It is quite a change from the AR's...It almost feels like the Nagant...

Nuthin' like an early M1! Of course there is nuthin' like ANY M1!!

As to ammo, Federal makes a line of ammo just for the M1. That particular loading is on the box. The CMP has some good deals on ammo, but you have to be a member. I picked up some Greek M2 ball ammo a few years ago very cheaply. But reloading is the way to go IMHO.
