I just put one on Lay-a-Way that I haven't seen before, hopefully we have some S&W historians out there. It's a model 10-5 with a 3 inch heavy barrel, round butt and nickel finish. I'd rate it NRA very good and it has the original grips. I've searched the net and just haven't found anything on that specific configuration.

I had a S&W Model 10 come out for sale at my shop the other day and I couldn't find a lot of info out there on that one either. I'm gonna have to check those sites out.

I have a copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Hardcover)
by Jim Supica, Richard Nahas at the house. I'll see what I can find when I get home tonight.

I was privileged enough to handle this lovely weapon earlier today. It's really shiny, very heavy and appears to be in pristine firing condition. Gorgeous gun, I had already started to mentally reconfigure the grocery budget when he said it was going into his personal collection. Dang.

This is some info from the S&W Forum.
http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-re...estion-model-10-5-3-inch-bbl-square-butt.html
Scroll down to Smithnut's post.

This is from the S&W Standard Catalog.
The Change that distinguished the 10-5 was a change to the Front sight width from 1/10 to 1/8 inch on standard barrels. Originally available as 2, 4, 5, 6 inch barrels, 3" barrels were available by special order in round or square butt and blue or nickel finish.
The 10-5 was only manufactured in 1962, as well as, the 10-4 and the 10-6. The serial number should be betweenC474149-C622699. It shows10-5 pistols with 3" barrels for the R.C.M.P.(Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and the French police with a tapered barrel, Serial #D828xxx range. They show a blued 3" barrel for the Michigan police and later adopted by the FBI.
Sound like a commercial special order.

I'm green with envy. Congratulations

Wow! Thanks Dave29461. It came in the shop the other day and when I saw it I knew I had to have it. I think eventually it will be a carry piece for my daughter, she's a wheel gun nut.

Always happy to help. I see they have a third edition of the S&W catalog out now. Always something new to look at.

Ok Dave you do not have an excuse now to Start shooting IDPA Your model with the 3 inch barrell will make an ideal IDPA and carry revolver. The nice thing about a wheel gun is that if you feed it half way deceint ammo it will Go BANG every time. By the way if you need speed loaders, speed loader holders and A holster i can loan you what you need to get started. You know how to get a hold of me.
