If you read the title then you see the problem. How can a state misspell their state name? Well it happened. My son and I just got another renewal permit in the mail yesterday. It seams they misspelled Hampshire with Hamshire. How embarrassing...

I was in the printing industry for 13 years and I learned to always say " I never read this stuff I just print shapes on paper".
I knew an old sign painter in charleston names Lucky of Texas. He was somewhat of a local legend because he had everyone convinced he could not read. he once told me he could read as well as anyone, but he couldn't spell. he would make people write down exactly what they wanted the sign to say and then would use their spelling. that way they could not say he misspelled a word and make him eat the job.

Old people are smarter than they let on. . . sometimes

Hey Red Hat, you get NH permits? I take it that you and your son go up for bear and/or deer hunting season in the fall.

I have an old friend whose uses the expression "Dumb like a fox". I think it would apply for this.

No we got them for GA, AL and MS since SC doesn't have a reciprocal agreement with those states. I was stationed at Pease AFB for a couple years and really liked the area. I didn't get a chance to do any hunting when I was there unfortunately.

I am not surprised by the misspelling.
Just look around you next time you are in a government office.
For years I kept hearing about the "dumbing down of America" well guess what?
It has happened, now we have to live with the consequences.

It's only just begun. Of all the things to cut funding to, education would be last on my list. An uneducated electorate is an easily managed (read as subjugated) electorate.
