I really don't like this. Farming out all of our information to an out of state firm to me is not a good idea. After JULY 9 they won't accept any applications until 2 Aug so there will be a one month dry period.

ATTENTION

STARTING AUGUST 2, 2010 SLED WILL BEGIN A NEW CWP AUTOMATED PROCESS. SLED WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT PAPER APPLICATIONS FOR NEW AND RENEWAL CONCEALED WEAPON PERMITS. ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE SUBMITTED THROUGH THE NEW ?SLED EasyPath? SYSTEM HOSTED BY L1 IDENTITY SOLUTIONS. ALL APPLICANTS, BOTH NEW AND RENEWAL, MUST BE FINGERPRINTED BY L1 IDENTITY SOLUTIONS.

ANY PAPER APPLICATION POSTMARKED AFTER JULY 9, 2010 WILL BE RETURNED IN PREPARATION FOR THE NEW SYSTEM.

PLEASE VISIT THE L1 WEBSITE AT www.L1enrollment.com or CALL (866) 254-2366 BEGINNING AUGUST 2, 2010 TO REGISTER FOR AN APPOINTMENT.

I'm not thrilled about it either even if L1 is an identity protection outfit who's to say something couldn't get screwed up.

Does this mean that everyone go to these people and let them fingerprint us again????

Sounds like you have to do it on renewals??? or, do we have to do it Aug. 2nd ....sounds stupid....More red tape...

So now we have to add the cost of driving to L1 office to the price of CWP, time off work, etc.. to enjoy our 2nd amendment. That's just great.

Is new set of fringerprints always been required in a renewal?

I doubt that they will require everyone to be fingerprinted by L1 after Aug 2. All requirements are filled if you have a CWP prior to that date. Once you come up for renewal then you will have to be fingerprinted again to get into their system.

Not only do we have to take time to drive to their office I read that their will be a $10 cost on top of the CWP fees for their service. I'm trying to confirm this but I doubt that SC will pay this fee out of the $50. (SECTION 23-31-216 Collection and retention of fees) A lot of question and little answers so far. New fingerprints have never been required for renewals, however they probably will be required on the first renewal through L1.

I had mine done by these people for a DSS background check. Wonder if I can use them for CWP renewal or if I got to get them again.
