One of my sons played high school ball with Dalton Freeman center for Clemson. Better watch it or I might slide a few hundred his way when they meet the SEC champion GamecCocks.

I'm thinking about an LC9 now or maybe a Diamondback 9mm.

I've also read some of their early models had problems but everyone I've talked to who has one to include the guys at Palmetto Armory say nothing but great things about them. Some people say Hi-Point are junk but I've never had one fail on me. Big, heavy, and ugly but very reliable. Made in the USA with one of the best warranties too.

I also read post about .380's not having take down power. The people posting this must have single shooters. I'm very confident that 7 .380 Federal Hydra-shok hollow points can take any man down even if he's on PCP. Most self defense situations involve 1-2 rounds. Be careful what you believe when reading posts online.

I've got 2, a 1911 and a KelTec P11. I've got to make sure that it's not just hanging out in my back pocket if I'm going to be doing any running or it will fall out. I had to learn the hard way, but I found it on my way back to where I was.

@tiger fan, I have a db380 and it did have to go back to the shop. That was the 1,984th one built, they replaced it with a newer model that has been flawless. I am not saying this to flame you, and don't expect it in return, but I think its in bad taste to put down a gun that you admittedly havent handled or shot. They are good weapons and made to do one thing, same as your Ruger. Some people prefer striker fired or Glock-ish design. Personally I have been leaning more to my TCP lately, but thats just preference, just like how you like your Ruger.

I dunno about that one, I've never handled or shot a Hi-Point ether but I wouldn't let anyone I know buy one.

I'm a proud owner of a Hi-Point. My wife keeps one in her shop. Works perfect every time. I read post about gun snobs putting them down. They are big and heavy but they work every time. Most of my friends have at least one. They come in handy when you want to keep something in your store for protection. No big deal if it's stolen since you can get another cheap.

Some people equate cost to quality. Search Google and watch the video. There's a pretty high majority of people who say Hi-Point is very much worth the money. Slap a Hogue grip on it and you have a Glock for mush less. ;)

Forgive me, I didn't mean to come off as I was putting it down...just putting out there what i've heard...

It was perfectly clear to me tigerfan was only posting about what had read. Definitely didn't see it as a flame. :?:

You can easily decide on a gun without firing one now days with the professional reviews on the Internet and talking to other gun owners you trust. I've bought at least a couple of guns online that I had never fired purely on advice and love them.

Any gun is better than no gun and cost certainly doesn't equal quality, but if I want a cheap gun that I'm not going to cry about if it gets stolen I'd just buy used trade in Smith & Wesson or something of the sort.

hogue grips are nice but I don't think they're the philosopher's stone of handguns. :)

i rotate between a G19, bersa 380, beretta tomcat, charter arms undercover .38 and a p22 occasionally.

I've got two right now:

A full size M&P 40 for the winter (it gets a little tough to conceal during the summer)

A Kahr P9 w/ crossbreed holster for the summer (best holster ever)

I think the Kahr isn't quite enough firepower (although it's definitely better than nothing!), but it's something I can carry pretty much at all times. I'll be adding a Glock 30 to the lineup that should seriously boost the firepower, but should still be small enough to carry all the time.

75% of the time its a Kel Tec P3AT with one extra magazine. I carry my PF9 when conditions allow. In the winter I sometimes carry my Sig P220 in 45 acp.
