Public law (Title 33-31-1602) proclaims non-profit corporations must make their records available to any voting member for them to examine.

After twelve years of operations under the documents filed with the state of SC to incorporate GrassRoots GunRights leadership recently learned that SC law lets membership have access to our records and membership list. This was written in the filing the officers signed and agreed to uphold in order to be a non-profit organization. Furthermore, they were to hold monthly membership meeting and elections yearly which they have failed to do.

In light of their refusal to release those documents to membership and hold the required meeting and elections, membership has filed a suit.

There will be a court hearing on a rule to show cause on Monday April the 18 at 11.00 AM.

Location: Lexington County Court of Common Pleas
205 East Main Street
Lexington SC

Anyone wishing to support this cause is invited to attend.

It means that the membership should get the right to hold elections and have a say in the way the organization is run. It also means that the all or nothing attitude of certain officers will have to go. It means that more bills will be introduced and passed without all the bickering when they don't get their way. It means that sabotaging bills because they don't like certain law makers will stop. It's all good for us and I'll rejoin when all this happens!

The rule to show cause I believe is just to prove the claim that GRGR has either acted as stated or not.

I con't have stated it better Red Hat, I think you summed it up nicely.

Well put. I only wish we could do something to the current government in a similar manner

Well...from what I can gather on the internet...the bill for better carry laws in SC was opposed by the Grassroots Org.....I was told because some of the head board didn't like a Congressman that helped sponsor the bill...

But, just what I heard.

As a long time member of GRGR I would have to say that what you heard is probably incorrect when it comes to "As why..." we oppose bills. I for one enjoy the insight brought to the table when it comes to analyzing these bills. We have some top notch folks looking into the laws all the time and only want to improve/increase our gun rights here in SC.

Many politicians try to incorporate some scheme that looks like they are helping us when in fact they are creating loop holes in the law for interpretation later. Some have actually tried to make it sound good while increasing penalties to gun owners.

Personally, I hate to see us tear at each other about these membership issues but it has to be done so we can get our shop in order and not reflect the same abuse of the law the politicians enjoy.

Without naming names I was told by a key 2A lawmaker that he was told that if a certain lawmaker had his name on any 2A bill that he would not support that bill. That he would do everything in his power to stop the bill. This is no way to represent us by carrying out personal vendettas. H.3292 had some wording problems but was fixable. What fordnut heard was the same thing I told by my representative. H.3292 luckily is not dead and is still being worked on. Hopefully with more input and control by the Grassroots membership after the law suit problems like this can be avoided in the future.

No, this is for real.
I too am a member of the NRA although I don't don't walk the NRA line. I have been a very strong supporter to GRGR SC too, more so than NRA.

I believe this change is for the best, and will continue to support GRGR effort ernestly.
