I'm looking for a simple carry vest for my wife. Not necessarily concealed carry, but something she can throw on easily when at home or on horseback rides. The key factors would be: able to holster a 1911 or similar handgun, designed to fit a woman's form comfortably, easy on easy off. Any experience or suggestions?

I'm no women, but this is what I have:

Some of the reviews showed women actually wearing and liking them. I use it to conceal my primary gun that's in a OWB holster on my hip and to carry all my magazines. Sometimes I'll have a BUG or two as well in the vest and/or in a pocket in my pants.

It says to order a size larger than you would normally get, but that just got me a vest that I had to adjust all the way down to its tightest adjustment. I doubt the sizes are consistent, though, as its made over seas (ewwww).

Thanks for the rec. I would like something along those lines for myself. I was hoping to find something a little less pocketty for my wife, though. Again, thanks.

Have you been to the NRA Store? They have a whole section of wear for CC. They had a women's section in the last catalog I looked thru.

I would be wary of carrying a weapon on my body while riding. Speaking from experience, it really hurts to have something like a folded hoof knife driven into your hip when you come off, I don't want to experience the kind of damage a gun would cause.
Would she like the idea of a saddle bag?

This company has a lot of different bag options that look like they'd work well for a holster.

I've heard good things about the SeV vests for concealed carry. They're expensive, but they do not look pockety at all.

Good point. What would we men do without you women to keep us straight? Thanks for the link to SeV; I like the way they give you an "x-ray" view to show you what fits where in their clothing. They didn't show any guns... I guess since most of their stuff was geared toward travel, we shudder the thought of a gun showing up in an x-ray!

I may look more into the saddle bags.

This is not a vest, but may be an alternative means of carrying. It's called the Ghost Belt and looks something like a fanny pack. (I saw it at the Gun Show this weekend.) Does anyone on the forum have any experience with this product? If so, please share.

I saw that at the show also but personally I wasn't impressed it seemed to flimsy.

I like the concept behind the carry shirt.
I don't know the lady in question but I would say that if she has size to her assets, so to speak, that a garment like that might not be the best choice for her. They don't have a female version so the man's shirt would have to stretch tighter across her upper torso, I'm not sure that the velcro would hold up as well to the added pressure. Plus the pocket entry placement would make for some unusual outlines on the front of her shirt especially if the entries were distorted by the additional tension on the fabric. The last thing I'd want is something attracting attention to the area of my body where I'm trying to conceal my weapon. However, I do know someone who is looking to replace his shoulder holster and I think this is a very viable option. Thanks!

I have looked around at the ScV vests and it appears as though people use the pocket for the kindle/ipad type stuff to holster their weapon.

Enjay, there are two "versions" of this shirt, I know they do make a female version. Plus the shirt is tight, it has to be to hold the weapon. as for printing, you were this shirt under another so it stays hidden. i wear this during the summer under a short sleeve button up, just don't button it up. You have seen how big I am too.
