Went up North to see in-laws this past weekend with the intention of going to SARCO in Penn. and getting A Star in 9mm and/or a Mauser (Swede 96, Yugo 24, 47, 48) to sporterize. All was going well until my son said come look at the sale rack. They had racks of shotguns and rifles of every ilk for very good prices. I looked at several Mausers and even some more modern rifles but John handed me a model 59 Winchester shotgun. It was in good shape and the action was very tight. The Fiberglass barrel was still looking good. I own a Model 59 and it is my favorite bird gun because it weighs only 6.0 lbs. I just couldn't leave that gun there to be bought and abused. Besides, I need a Full Choke when I go shoot skeet :D and my old one has a 24" barrel which is great for wobble trap. I didn't get a rifle or a pistol but I got a great addition to my collection and I got to see my son and go to a really great gun store. I'll just have to plan another trip to find a project gun. I hear Anniston, Ala. is nice this time of year and CMP has some nice M1's ;)
I'll post a picture soon.
If you get a chance to go don't miss SARCO's store in Easton, Penn.

Built from 1959 to 1963 they are great shotguns.

I saw two at the gun show this weekend. They ranged from 425.00 to 550.00. Kept walking. It would have to be extra special to get that price from me. A Versalite choked barrel might make me think hard. ;)

Nice shotgun, looks like a keeper :)

If you don't mind my asking, I thought people weren't allowed to go to other states and purchase weapons?

SC law doesn't prohibit you from buying long guns from an FFL in another state. Penn. law allows selling long guns to out of state people through an FFL. I could also have used my 03FFL to buy it since it was older than 50years. Handguns are the big pain. Having a Penn. CWP was helpful but not essential ,as well. I need to get a Conn. CWP now that John is going to be there three more years and I hate to go visit without my gun. Go collecting were ever you go. I could have had them ship a handgun to Henry at HHB Guns since his 01FFL is on file with SARCO. :D

I was thinking we could only purchase long guns from the border states. We can buy long guns from anywhere in the United States?

We can if we are buying from an FFL. I had to fill out the paperwork and have a background check done. They have a list of states that allow them to sell directly to that state's resident. Other states would have had to have the firearm shipped to an FFL in that state then picked-up. Private sales are limited in their legal sales.

Other states would require the resident to have a firearm sent to an ffl in the resident's home state, or an ffl in the state of purchase?

I ask because we have family in VA and it would be nice to be able to look there when we visit.

To your home state. Virginia is good about letting people purchase guns. My brother in law came down and took home a Plum Crazy lower and a Western Tactical Upper to Virginia. My son took several Plum Crazy lowers home to Conn....After removing the Collapsible stocks. Long guns are not regulated as closely as hndguns because only handguns can go hunting for someone to kill on their own.

Enjay, Where about in Virginia do y'all visit? We've bought firearms in West Virginia and Virginia without a problem. If you want a handgun get Henry to give you a signed copy of his FFL for you to take with you. Then they can ship direct to him.

Generally when we go to Virginia we stick to the Richmond area, but I've never looked at the gun stores there because I didn't think I could buy anything. My f-i-l gets awesome deals every once in a while though so it sounds like it's worth a look.

Absolutely brilliant! The store is awesome, if any of you ever went prior to the move its night and day from the old store. Hell they actually know what they have and can find it now. Great selection of rifles that you would never be able get in SC. Only thing better is a trip to NH. Furthermore Dad and my Uncle saved me from myself, Dad bought that shotgun, and my uncle bought a swede CG63 out from under me
